I ride a sports bike in town,
I felt that the tires were thin (700x23C) were often caused by the fact that they were easily affected by the road surface, so I tried to make the tire width a little thicker (700x28C).

自分の乗っているリーダーバイク725では、最初についていた「700x23C」のタイヤから 「700x28C」へ変更することは問題なくできました。
ホイール幅（リムの内幅）の「+4〜12mm」が大体のつけられるタイヤの対応サイズになるようなので
リムの内幅が「20mm」だった場合「700 x 23C / 25C / 28C / 32C」のタイヤへ変更するのは許容範囲っぽそうです。
If the recommended tire size is listed on the wheel, please follow that.
Also, make sure you have enough space around the tires on the bicycle frame.
I think it would be difficult to make the tires you currently have thicker if they are just the right frame.
Can wider tire width solve the problem?
自分の場合、23Cから28Cへ変更して不安は解消できたかなと感じました。 （32Cにしてもよかったかも）
ツルツルの23mm幅のスリックタイヤから、 少しゴツゴツした28mm幅のセミスリックタイヤに変えたので 全然違う感じになるのかなと期待してたのですが、 乗り心地は若干変わったかなと感じる程度でした。
歩道を走行するときに23Cのタイヤの時に感じていた 少しの段差でつまづきそうになる不安は解消されたと思います。 （リム打ちパンクを23Cのときに何回かしたのでちょっとトラウマでした）
タイヤが太くなった分、若干重くなっているはずなので、長い坂道は多少キツくなるかもですが 街乗り程度であれば誤差の範囲かなと。
